MRM to spearhead Generation Rent campaign for consumer rights
MRM will drive Generation Rent’s campaign to deliver change for tenants through the Consumer Rights legislation that today starts its committee stage in the House of Lords. Generation Rent is seeking to strengthen deposit protection for tenants as well as tenants’ rights. The MRM team will be led by Head of Public Affairs Havard Hughes and will work closely with Generation Rent’s campaign staff.
Commenting on the appointment, Alex Hilton, Director of Generation Rent said: “The affordability, security and conditions crisis in housing is driven by a basic market failure; a fact to which the political elite is wilfully blinkered. MRM’s understanding of the financial policy landscape is second to none, and we believe that we’ve found a partner who can help us get a fairer deal for those who rent.”
Havard Hughes added: “Housing policy has risen inexorably to the top of political agenda and we are excited to be helping Generation Rent make a difference for tenants. The growing rental community faces a range of challenges made worse by the state of the present law. Government and the regulatory community needs to better understand the implications of their decisions for housing tenants.”
