Investment stories continue their comeback in the weekend money sections
Having rallied last week (up 6%), investment stories continued their rebound in this weekend’s money sections up a whopping 13% – from 26% to 37% of all coverage. Apart from the rise in investment articles, most of the other topics had no significant change as insurance took second place with just a 3% rise.
Much of the investment talk this week was focused on Gartmore, and the departure of key fund manager Roger Guy and chief investment officer Dominic Rossi to Fidelity. Alice Ross (filling in for Matthew Vincent) in the FT Weekend focused on the ‘star manager effect’ and whether a managers departure really matters – saying that retail investors have already been pulling money out of Gartmore funds, so to some people it clearly does.
Nina Montagu-Smith (@ninamontagu) in the Sunday Times looked at those companies that have also taken Gartmore off their buy lists, as Jeff Prestridge (@jeffprestridge) highlighted that Gartmore is very close to losing its independence in the Mail on Sunday
Investing in China was also a popular theme this weekend. Ian Cowie (@iancowie) in the Sunday Telegraph, with more on Gartmore, discussed whether he should be selling his holdings in their China Opportunities while Kathryn Cooper and Ali Hussain discussed the possibility of China boiling over in the Sunday Times.
