Savings and pensions rule the roost in the mid-week money sections

Savings took the top spot for the second week running, accounting for 38 per cent of the total PF stories in the nationals today, up from 32 per cent last week. Hot on its heels were pensions stories which surged from 10 per cent last week to 32 per cent.

On the savings front, the Daily Mail (@DMAILMoney) looked at how payouts on endowments policies have crashed by 75 per cent since the late Eighties and early Nineties when most were sold. The Mail reveals the ‘crippling legacy’ these policies have left. Also in the Mail, James Salmon gave some tips on how to make your ISA work – some handy advice for the ISA season.

In the Telegraph,(@TeleFinance) Emma Wall sympathised with how difficult it can be to save money and offers tips on how to bolster savings. 

Moving on to pensions, and the Express  reported on how women who are facing delays in getting their state pension should act now to find out where they stand. The Mail also had a cautionary tale about those who were overpaid pensions by an administrative error and are now being hit with huge bills.

Looking slightly further afield, James Coney (@jimconey) highlighted the plight of thousands of pensioners in Spain who have had their retirement plans ruined after being driven out of the country when their finances reached breaking point. Fears of an economic collapse and a weak exchange rate have forced them to return home.
